Over the years I have featured many videos of landslides in action, some amazing and some less so.\u00a0 Today’s example is right at the amazing end of the scale.\u00a0 This slide appears to be a quick clay type (see earlier examples here<\/a> and here<\/a>)\u00a0event and that it occurred on 17th October at Port Chibatao (shown above before the landslide)\u00a0in Manaus in Brazil.\u00a0\u00a0Note that this is an inland port in the centre of Brazil on\u00a0 the Amazon.\u00a0 The video\u00a0should be visible below:<\/p>\n

The slide was apparently triggered by a backhoe working an on exit ramp at the site, according to this article<\/a>.\u00a0 This small level of disturbance would be enough to start a quick clay slide under certain circumstances.\u00a0 The loss of those cargo containers, mostly full of electronic goods according to the article, is going to be very expensive.\u00a0 It appears that two workers were killed, but this is unconfirmed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"

On 17th October an amazing quick clay type landslide occurred at Porto Chibat\u00e3o in Manaus, Brazil. The slide was caught in action by a CCTV camera. This video is featured here. It is one of the most impressive landslide events every caught on camera,
