{"id":21952,"date":"2017-02-26T10:25:55","date_gmt":"2017-02-26T10:25:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=21952"},"modified":"2017-02-26T10:51:40","modified_gmt":"2017-02-26T10:51:40","slug":"kakanj-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2017\/02\/26\/kakanj-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Kakanj &#8211; an enormous mine waste landslide in Bosnia last Friday"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Kakanj &#8211; an enormous mine waste landslide in Bosnia last Friday<\/h5>\n<p>On Friday of last week, an enormous landslide occurred at Kakanj in Bosnia.\u00a0 It is reported that this is a failure of a huge waste pile from the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kakanj_coal_mine\">Kakanj Coal Mine.<\/a>\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/newsok.com\/bosnia-landslide-forces-home-evacuations-road-closure\/article\/feed\/1173759?custom_click=rss&amp;utm_source=dlvr.it&amp;utm_medium=twitter\">Reports indicate<\/a> that 150 people have been forced to evacuate their homes in the villages of Ribnica and Mramor.\u00a0 The landslide has also blocked a river.<\/p>\n<p>The best images that I have been able to find are contained in this drone footage that has been been posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y9Z45KGtZTY\">Youtube by Radio Sarajevo<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/y9Z45KGtZTY\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>From the above video I have extracted this image, which shows the extent of the failed mass.\u00a0 I have drawn in the boundaries of the mine waste landslide as they appear on this image:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_21965\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21965\" class=\"size-full wp-image-21965\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2017\/02\/17_02-Kakanj-1c-e1488102829396.jpg\" alt=\"Kakanj\" width=\"640\" height=\"362\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-21965\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Kanaj landslide via Radio Sarajevo and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=y9Z45KGtZTY\">Youtube<\/a>.
