{"id":21396,"date":"2017-02-06T08:21:21","date_gmt":"2017-02-06T08:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=21396"},"modified":"2017-02-06T08:21:21","modified_gmt":"2017-02-06T08:21:21","slug":"bova-marina-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2017\/02\/06\/bova-marina-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Bova Marina &#8211; an interesting retaining wall failure video"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Bova Marina &#8211; an interesting retaining wall failure video<\/h5>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bova_Marina\">Wikipedia<\/a>, Bova Marina is &#8220;is a <i>comune<\/i> (municipality) in the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria in the Italian region Calabria, located about 120 kilometres (75\u00a0mi) southwest of Catanzaro and about 30 kilometres\u00a0 southeast of Reggio Calabria&#8221;.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=jQaJymQHUAw\">A video appeared on Youtube yesterday<\/a> showing a rather spectacular retaining wall failure, which appears to be driven by a landslide occurring on the slope behind:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jQaJymQHUAw\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>There is very little detail about this event on the internet at present.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strill.it\/citta\/reggio\/2017\/02\/muro-a-bova-marina-ss-106-cronaca-di-un-crollo-annunciato-foto\/\">An article on strill.it<\/a>, in Italian, suggests that significant distress was observed in this wall back in September, and that the final collapse occurred at about 10 am on 4th February.
