{"id":20531,"date":"2016-11-21T06:30:44","date_gmt":"2016-11-21T06:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=20531"},"modified":"2016-11-20T23:59:37","modified_gmt":"2016-11-20T23:59:37","slug":"siirt-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2016\/11\/21\/siirt-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Siirt in Turkey: a desperate race to save the lives of miners buried in a landslide (with a video)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Siirt in Turkey: a desperate race to save the lives of miners buried in a landslide<\/h5>\n<p>Somewhat lost in the focus on the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2016\/11\/20\/geonet-1\/\">landslides triggered by the earthquake in New Zealand<\/a> has been an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailysabah.com\/d\/national\/2016\/11\/21\/grief-race-against-time-for-trapped-copper-miners\">ongoing landslide tragedy at Siirt in Turkey<\/a>.\u00a0 Here, a landslide on Thursday at the copper mine at\u00a0Madenk\u00f6y buried 16 miners.\u00a0 To date the bodies of six men have been recovered, and operations continue to recover the other ten.\u00a0 The authorities have admitted that their prospects are not promising.
