{"id":176,"date":"2010-04-08T09:06:00","date_gmt":"2010-04-08T09:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2010\/04\/08\/another-major-landslide-in-the-rio-de-janeiro-area-of-brazil\/"},"modified":"2010-10-21T13:35:54","modified_gmt":"2010-10-21T17:35:54","slug":"another-major-landslide-in-the-rio-de-janeiro-area-of-brazil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2010\/04\/08\/another-major-landslide-in-the-rio-de-janeiro-area-of-brazil\/","title":{"rendered":"Another major landslide in the Rio de Janeiro area of Brazil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/oglobo.globo.com\/rio\/mat\/2010\/04\/07\/desabamento-soterra-dezenas-de-casas-em-niteroi-916276951.asp\">O Globo<\/a> in Brazil is reporting that another large landslide (in Portuguese &#8220;deslizamento de terra&#8221; for those looking the original website) struck the Niteroi area overnight, burying up to 50 houses, following the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/wp-content\/scripts\/daveslandslideblog.blogspot.com.bouncer.php\/daveslandslideblog.blogspot.com\/2010\/04\/widespread-landslides-in-rio-de-janeiro.html\">multiple slides yesterday<\/a>.&nbsp; The slide (shown below in an <a href=\"http:\/\/oglobo.globo.com\/fotos\/2010\/04\/07\/07_MHG_RIO_niteroi1.jpg\">image from O Globo<\/a>) occurred at Vi\u00e7oso Jardim, in the Niteroi suburb of Cubango.&nbsp; At least five people have been killed, with an unknown number of people missing.&nbsp; The site is reportedly an old garbage dump that has subsequently been occupied by illegal dwellings.<\/p>\n<div class=\"separator\" style=\"clear: both;text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2010\/10\/10_04-Niteroi-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" border=\"0\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2010\/10\/10_04-Niteroi-1.jpg\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<p>Overall the toll from this multiple landslide disaster is very high.&nbsp; To date the confirmed number of fatalities is 150, with 135 people injured and 40 or so still missing.&nbsp; The Civil Defense agency is reporting 806 rainfall induced events, most of them landslides of various types.
