href=\"http:\/\/wvpublic.org\/post\/yeager-airport-monitoring-slide-area-after-movement-detected\">News reports yesterday<\/a> indicated that the <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2015\/03\/13\/yeager-airport-1\/\">Yeager Airport landslide<\/a>\u00a0had another significant movement event at the end of the weekend (for reference <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2015\/03\/13\/yeager-airport-1\/\">my original post is here<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2015\/03\/16\/yeager-airport-landslide-new-videos-on-youtube-portray-the-damage\/\"> this is my post with videos of the site<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2015\/03\/18\/yeager-airport-fill-slope-failure\/\">this post looks like the landslide history of the site<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2015\/03\/23\/yeager-airport-slope-failure-1\/\">this one examines reports that the fill slope was moving two years before the landslide occurred<\/a>)\u00a0 .\u00a0 In many ways I don&#8217;t think that this should be considered to be a major surprise &#8211; the back scarp of the landslide was (and still is) composed of fill that has inadequate support.\u00a0 The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wvgazette.com\/article\/20150413\/GZ01\/150419806\">Charleston Gazette has some nice images of the landslide taken yesterday<\/a>, including this inspection it appears that a large block has detached from the left side of the landslide scar (as viewed from the foot of the slope), as indicated above.\u00a0 The darker material on the more recent image appears to indicate the location of this block prior to collapse.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BobAaronWCHS\">Bob Aaron<\/a> has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BobAaronWCHS\/status\/587623265998340096\">this view on his Twitter feed<\/a>, taken from a different perspective, which gives a clear view of the detached Gazette<\/a><\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>This rolling up of the asphalt road is consistent with deeper movement in the landslide mass, which in turn is consistent with loading from a failed block at the crown of the landslide.\u00a0 It appears to me that these is still a steep slope at the rear of the landslide formed from very weak materials, so further failures seem likely.\u00a0 These failures will probably load the debris pile further, so further movement of the toe of the Yeager Airport landslide slide seems possible.<\/p>\n<p>Further rain is forecast for the next few days in this
