{"id":14741,"date":"2015-03-07T08:35:58","date_gmt":"2015-03-07T08:35:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=14741"},"modified":"2015-03-07T08:35:58","modified_gmt":"2015-03-07T08:35:58","slug":"new-video-an-excavator-hit-by-a-self-induced-rockfall","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2015\/03\/07\/new-video-an-excavator-hit-by-a-self-induced-rockfall\/","title":{"rendered":"New video: an excavator hit by a self-induced rockfall"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Excavator rockfall<\/h5>\n<p>The work of excavator drivers in clearing rockfalls and landslides never ceases to amaze me.\u00a0 This is very dangerous work that requires high levels of skill, a deft touch and fast reactions to move out of the way of mobile debris.\u00a0 The work that these machine operators did clearing debris after the Kashmir earthquake in Pakistan in 2005 was impressive:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14744\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2015\/03\/PICT3099-e1425715021231.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14744\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14744\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2015\/03\/PICT3099-e1425715021231.jpg\" alt=\"Excavator\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14744\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kashmir Earthquake road clearance<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not sure as to the origin of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=vfJx5AKmKoQ\">this video<\/a>, which appeared on Youtube in the last few days.\u00a0 The video is on the Youtube channel of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abilitazioneattrezzature.com\/\">Abilitiazone Attrezzature<\/a>, an Italian machinery company, but they seem to have many videos on there.\u00a0 Anyway, the video shows a large excavator trying to clear a very extensive rockfall:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ZQlBMFr09CM\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe>.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>It must have been a terrifying experience for the operator, who did a pretty good job of getting out of the way.\u00a0 The arm of the excavator was probably ruined, but at least the machine (and so the driver) was not buried and crushed.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A video on Youtube shows an excavator triggering a rockfall that the strikes the machine.
