{"id":14691,"date":"2015-02-23T07:50:36","date_gmt":"2015-02-23T07:50:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/?p=14691"},"modified":"2015-02-23T07:50:36","modified_gmt":"2015-02-23T07:50:36","slug":"fauquier-golf-course-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2015\/02\/23\/fauquier-golf-course-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Fauquier Golf Course &#8211; the evolution of a landslide"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>Fauquier Golf Course<\/h5>\n<p>The interesting <a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/2015\/02\/21\/fauquier-golf-course-1\/\">Fauquier Golf Course landslide<\/a>, about which I wrote over the weekend, does not appear to be a one-off event, although the most recent movement may well be far more damaging and significant than early events.\u00a0 This Google Earth image is dated January 2005:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14692\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2015\/02\/15_02-Fauquier-31-e1424676452870.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14692\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14692\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2015\/02\/15_02-Fauquier-31-e1424676452870.jpg\" alt=\"Fauquier Golf Course\" width=\"640\" height=\"396\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14692\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Google Earth<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>Note the linear features running sub-parallel to the shoreline just below the clubhouse.\u00a0 These appear to me to be tension cracks and rear scarps.\u00a0 The other (less good) Google Earth image is from April 2009.\u00a0 Take a look at these features in this image:<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14693\" style=\"width: 650px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2015\/02\/15_02-Fauquier-4-e1424676620914.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14693\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14693\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.agu.org\/landslideblog\/files\/2015\/02\/15_02-Fauquier-4-e1424676620914.jpg\" alt=\"Fauquier Golf Course\" width=\"640\" height=\"396\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14693\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Google Earth<\/p><\/div>\n<p>.<\/p>\n<p>The low sun angle does exaggerate the effect, but it is clear that four years on the landslide had developed substantially.\u00a0 The tension cracks and rear scarps below the clubhouse had become larger and more pronounced, and they had extended down towards the shoreline, especially on the right hand side.\u00a0 The landslide block is very clearly delineated.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 10px;\">Some of the Panoromio photographs give the game away.\u00a0 This one, by Kuschk, is entitled &#8220;Hill slumping on hole no. 4, Fauquier &amp; District Golf Club&#8221;.
