Tropical Storm Nock-Ten is making landfall in the Philippines
Posted by Dave Petley
After a slow start to the typhoon season, a substantial (but not very intense) landfalling storm has now developed and is about to track across the Philippines. Tropical Storm Nock-Ten (known as Juaning in the Philippines) has just started to track across the central part of the Philippines, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds (image from HKO):
The rainfall associated with this storm is likely to cause at least some landslides. Indeed, news reports suggest that a landslide in Albay may have killed three people already. Hopefully the storm will move rapidly across the landmass.
Otherwise, typhoon activity remains surprisingly low. Ryan Maue continues to provide excellent coverage of this issue.
