As some of you may have noticed, over the past few days I’ve given Georneys a bit of a facelift. I’ve removed the pretty but distracting background picture and changed the post colors from white on gray to simpler (and hopefully more readable) black on white. I’ve also photoshopped my blog text onto my title image, which I cannot seem to center despite my best efforts. I mostly chose the font on the title image because it’s named “Papyrus” and it reminds me of Egypt, a country I very much hope to visit in the next few years.
Let me know what you think. I’m not a graphic designer, but I hope these changes are for the better.
Actually, I’m not really known for my fashion sense or sense of color at all, as the photo below illustrates. My mom recently posted this photo of me (I’m about four years old in the photo) on Facebook. My friends and relatives laughed and posted teasing comments about my outfit, so I replied to them in a Facebook comment:
“In my defense, let me say 1. I think that’s a wooly mammoth (and maybe dinosaurs?) on my shirt, and that is awesome; 2.The green socks & pink jellies color coordinate perfectly with my mammoth/dino outfit; and 3.Poor fashion sense is a trait often associated with scientific brilliance.”
That said, I do hope the bloggy changes are better looking than my green-and-pink outfit. Particularly that spidery hair clip.

I asked my mom to scan a couple of old pictures of my dad and I for our forthcoming Lulu book "Interviews with my Dad, a Nuclear Engineer, about the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant Disaster." She has enthusiastically taken on the task of scanning (and, alas, posting on Facebook) myriad childhood photos of my sister and I. Moms, you know…

A mom and a family photo album? Never in the annals of history has such an embarrassing combination ever existed. You have my sympathies.And I like the layout. Although, to be honest, I also enjoyed the other layout too. But then, I'm not particularly choosy, I read for content.

djy: Alas, that bunny has been lost. I had a dozen or so stuffed rabbits as a child. Still have two– my favorite named "Bunny McRabbit" and a Thumper stuffed animal (from Bambi). And, yes, I'm not ashamed to still have stuffed animals in my late twenties :-). Larian: Glad you like the layout!

Thanks for the facelift on the site. I had one cataract removed last year, unfortunately, the posterior lens capsule is now clouding and will have to be laser removed, whenever I get a job and health insurance (they wanted $1500 to laser the one place, where the area is only 2.5mm^2! I objected that I wasn't BUYING the laser, but I also DO know how much they DO cost…Meanwhile, I'll eventually have to get the OTHER eye operated on and lens replaced, then, eventually, that will require the same deal…So, thanks for the better contrast. It's greatly appreciated and I no longer look like I'm frowning when I read your pages. :)BTW, are you and dad going to do a follow-up on Fukushima, after the announcement of the total core meltdown on #1 and small holes in the pressure vessel? Considering the doomsayers about the containment vessel WOULD fail, I'd say it's a GREAT engineering job that it didn't. Corium IS a bit on the warm side.
