Help build a brighter future for the Earth and space sciences as an AGU leader

AGU wants your help in shaping the organization’s future!

Every two years, AGU holds elections for our Board and Council, which play a vital role in strengthening AGU, and advancing the organization’s mission and vision.

Later this year, AGU will hold an election for a number of important volunteer leadership positions. We have four open positions on the AGU Board, including AGU president-elect and three director positions, one of which will be for an early career scientist. We also have four open student and early career positions on the AGU Council.

As past president, I chair the Leadership Development/Governance Committee, which is responsible for attracting members who can serve in these leadership positions and help AGU execute its Strategic Plan. We are currently seeking nominations for these positions. The committee will then review the nominations and ask qualified candidates to formally apply for these open positions.

With more than a century of strong leadership as a scientific society, we are looking for the next generation of volunteer leaders who will help us realize AGU’s vision for the future of Earth and space science and our community by accelerating both discovery and solution-based science and building a more inclusive scientific community.

We need dynamic, engaged and diverse voices that will help us seek new ways to enable scientific discovery, innovation and action that supports a thriving, sustainable and equitable future for our planet. Serving as a Board or Council member will also provide the opportunity to build on AGU’s deep commitment to combating racism and significantly improving the diversity in science and our scientific leadership.
