Can’t miss sessions from Day 4 of #AGU20, including STEM diversity & inclusion and AGU’s new strategic plan

By: ,

We are wrapping up our first week of #AGU20 with a featured plenary with Dr. Freeman Hrabowski, a passionate advocate for inclusive excellence and STEM at UMBC, where he has served as president since 1992. His most recent book, The Empowered University, examines how university communities support academic success by cultivating an empowering institutional culture.

If you are an AGU member, you won’t want to miss a town hall on AGU’s new strategic plan. AGU’s President Robin Bell, President-elect Susan Lozier and CEO/Executive Director Randy W. Fiser will present a financial snapshot and the new strategic direction of the organization. This session is also serving as the annual membership meeting. After the presentation, the three will be available for a live Q&A from the audience.

Are you interested in science policy or science communication? Learn more about how you can become a Congressional Science Fellow or Mass Media Fellow and ask questions of current and past fellows who will discuss their experiences and how they helped influence national science, energy and environmental policy, and reported for major news outlets.

Town halls on Friday include, What Do I Need to Know about Data Journals, led by editors of several journals.

And drop-in to learn about a new initiative – AGU LANDInG (American Geophysical Union Leadership Academy and Network for Diversity and Inclusion in the Geosciences) – that will spark the culture shift needed to develop an equitable, inclusive and welcoming environment in the geosciences.

Also, be sure to take a look behind the scenes of #AGU20 with our meetings team, who are in the control room at AGU HQ and operating a virtual help desk!  Need help—reach out to us at [email protected]
