A Message from AGU’s President
It’s my pleasure to let you know that Christine W. McEntee, Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer of the American Institute of Architects, will join AGU in late August as the society’s third Executive Director.

Chris was selected from a large group of outstanding candidates following an extensive international search. AGU was assisted in the search process by the executive search firm Isaacson, Miller.

Chris is regarded as one of the top association executives in the nation. She is known for her transformative, collaborative leadership style, as well as her many achievements at AIA, the American College of Cardiology, and the American Hospital Association.

I encourage you to read more about Chris in the AGU press release which is posted on the Web site. We’ll continue to post information and news about Chris on the Executive Director page we’ve established for that purpose.

In coming to AGU, Chris is embracing an opportunity of great personal and professional interest. While she is not a geophysicist, she has a background in the life sciences and a passion for the environment and sustainability. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees from George Washington University and Georgetown University, respectively. She is also a graduate of the Advanced Executive Program at the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.

We are very fortunate to have Chris join us at this stage in AGU’s transformation to an inclusive, participative organization. We are also excited about her outreach expertise and ability to help AGU become an authoritative voice of Earth and space science. She is definitely up to the challenge after having successfully accomplished a similar result at AIA.

I also want to take this opportunity to thank Robert (Bob) Van Hook of Transition Management Consulting, who has served AGU so well as Interim Executive Director. Bob has done a tremendous job and we are delighted to have him with us for several more months.

I’m looking forward to working with Chris and hope you’ll join me in welcoming her to AGU.

Best regards,
