AGU update post-Hurricane Ida

By:

The destruction caused by Hurricane Ida in Louisiana and Mississippi is devastating and heartbreaking. In addition to our members, AGU staff have friends and family who live in these areas. We are grateful that these individuals are safe.

Many of you have asked what you can do to help. If you would like to volunteer or donate to help those in New Orleans, please visit Second Harvest Food Bank. We’re evaluating additional opportunities to contribute to or volunteer with the local community, as appropriate, during #AGU21.

We also know some of you may be wondering what happens now with AGU Fall Meeting 2021 that will be in New Orleans, LA from 13-17 December. We are in close contact with state and local officials as they continue to assess the situation. We ask you to please be patient with us while we work with them to make sure we can have a safe meeting for all. For example, even though we know that downtown New Orleans fared better than some of the surrounding areas, we want to make sure that local staff can safely travel to and from work for our meeting.

We appreciate your patience and understanding. As soon as we have more information, we will keep our community updated.
