About
The Plainspoken Scientist is an AGU blog on science communication, for scientists.
In AGU’s Outreach department we work to enhance public understanding of Earth and space science by connecting the science of our members with the public. We do this by writing press releases, organizing press conferences at meetings, and maintaining a presence in social media—but we think it’s also vital for scientists to directly engage with the public.
With this blog, we at AGU wish to encourage scientists to reach out to the public and to do so with plainspoken discussion, be it in face-to-face interactions, through the media, or online. This blog aims also to showcase and support researchers who are already doing a great job at communicating science to the public, and to provide tips and a discussion forum for those engaged or wishing be engaged in conveying accurate information, and the appeal of science, to everybody.
