Cuprified wood
Posted by Callan
This is insane. Check it out – a malachitized and azuritized log, on display in front of the Geological Sciences building at the University of Texas at El Paso:

Have you ever seen anything like that? It’s cool meets cool. Awesome.

Callan Bentley is an assistant professor of geology at Northern Virginia Community College in Annandale, Virginia. He is particularly interested in structural geology and the evolution of the Appalachian mountain belt. Callan draws cartoons and writes for EARTH magazine. He lives in Washington, D.C.

F(cool) = cool * cool = (cool)^2 = AWESOME
Even the derivative is 2cool!
I want one of these. Actually, I want a forest of these so I can build the ultimate log house.
Does it still count as a log house if you use petrified wood?
A log’s a log, I reckon…
Oh, and for those considering building structures from petrified wood, see the example of this gas station in Colorado, as profiled by David. B. Williams in his book Stories in Stone.
Reminds me of the Fossil Cabin in Medicine Bow
