I enjoy reading the blogs, and have subscribed using Google reader (which is how I read all my blogs). Unfortunately I cannot subscribe to individual blogs that way, only to the site in general (blogs.agu.org) and it is absolutely swamped with spam, to the point of being unreadable. Is there anything you can do about this?

My initial reaction (after perhaps a half hour of looking around and browsing some posts) is that I don’t see any help or guidance anywhere; nor any description of the process for starting a blog. I stumbled into some at one point in this group, but now I can’t find it anymore. I’m very experienced with other blog sites, so this doesn’t bode well for user transparency…

      Hi Thomas,

This is Maria-Jose Vinas, the AGU Blogosphere’s community manager. Thank you for your interest and comments.

Currently AGU does not provide general hosting for blogs. The AGU Blogosphere is a community of blogs by established scientist-bloggers: The currently hosted scientist-bloggers were invited to join after AGU evaluated their existing, independent blogs. We may be expanding the community in 2011: any Earth and space scientists with a current, frequently-updated science blog will be welcome to apply.

We also welcome occasional guest posts by both non-bloggers and established bloggers in the GeoSpace and The Plainspoken Scientist blogs. If you have ideas for a guest post, please get in touch with me directly (mjvinas@agu.org): we’d love to have a piece by an AGU Fellow!

      Best wishes,
      MJ

    Hi there,
I figured I would open up a space for readers to offer some feedback on this new initiative of AGU’s. Let us know what you think!
    Thanks,
    Callan
